Emergency
The emergency department of Xuanwu hospital started from the emergency room when the hospital was built. After 60 years of weathered rain and snow and medical staff’s hard work and struggle of several generations, the emergency department has come to a medicine, education, research and prevention medical care center with exquisite technology, advanced equipment, scientific management and cultural rich from a which had only one anesthesia machine, one defibrillator and no fixed emergency room doctors.
The emergency department has a total construction area of 16000 square meters, and the annual number of emergency visits is about 180,000. About 9,000 people were rescued from critical illness every year. The emergency department consists a complete spectrum of departments including Internal medicine, Neurology, General surgery, Ophthalmology , Otolaryngology, Stomatology and Gynaecology and Obstetrics. Our department undertakes the duty to receive emergent and critical patients. Currently, our department has five sections including emergency clinical reception, emergency rescue room, emergency observing room, emergency ward and intensive care units. It also has 24hours emergency examination, emergency X-ray, magnetic resonance, ultrasonic examination and emergency pharmacy. Now we offer 80 beds, 36 beds for observation and 20 chairs for infusion.
After 60 years of development, the emergency department of Xuanwu hospital has developed a reasonable the talent echelon, well-equipped and strong in comprehensive strength. Nowadays, our department has 156 employees (40 doctors and 116 nurses), including 5 chief physicians, 12 associate chief physicians, 2 co-chief superintendent nurses and 4 postgraduate tutors. Among them, 12 persons own doctor degree.
Our team are trained and experienced in emergency diseases and are adept in appropriate treatments of acute critical illness , including: acute cardiovascular disease , cerebral vascular disease , acute exacerbation of chronic diseases, thermoplegia ,rhabdomyolysis ,acute multiple organ dysfunction syndrome , acute intoxication accident ,sepsis , acute abdomen , endocrine Emergency, multiple injuries and etc. Our department, relying on the comprehensive strength of Xuanwu hospital and associating with multidisciplinary, has run several green channels, includes :acute stroke, acute myocardial infarction, multiple trauma, and high-risk pregnant women; and what deserves to be mentioned is green channel for acute stroke has been listed as the demonstration unit by Beijing and the national brain Defense Committee. Our staffs are proficient in dealing with emergency public health events (for instance: major disaster accident, mass trauma and mass poisoning); In addition ,they have done great work time after time in catastrophe rescue, combat floods and medical-aids to Xinjiang and /or Tibet.;Besides , they have acquitted themselves of various duties splendidly in medical security in civil and national events ; Furthermore , they have engaged themselves in free medical consultation, health service activities and technical training for poor and outlying district
Since 2003, our unit has been the training center for postgraduates of emergency medicine of capital medical university; Besides, it has been responsible for theory education and clinic practice for medical students among seven-year-program ,five-year undergraduates and three-year graduates ,as well as for nursing students among undergraduates, junior college students and evening university students ; Additionally, it has been the training base of Beijing emergency medicine for both doctors and nurses. Moreover, it is a pioneer in high simulation teaching in China and consolidates its lead until now; What is more, it conducts provincial further-education and National Continuing Education Programs every year, which is well received by the participants.
The emergency department has undertaken a number of national and Beijing-level scientific research projects. The total funding for the last five years is about 4 million yuan. We have published 104 articles in statistical source journals and 10 SCI articles. And capital investment continues to increase. Eleven people in our emergency department serve in various academic organizations. The emergency department pays attention to the training of employees and international communication. In recent years, many staff have been sent to the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other places to conduct academic exchanges and studies. Many staff participate in international academic conferences to perform conferences or poster presentations.
In the past 60 years, the emergency department of Xuanwu Hospital has grown from small to large. The Xuanwu emergency department has never stopped its advance. Many staff have won awards in various competitions. The emergency department has won many group awards, such as the "National Youth Civilization" in 2016; the "Beijing Youth Civilization" in 2017; and the "Beijing March 8 Red-Banner Groups" in 2018.
In the new era, new opportunities, new features, and new journeys, the emergency staff at Xuanwu Hospital will continue to uphold the courageous, committed, aggressive, and pursuing excellence in emergency care and create new glories!
