The neurology laboratory was established in the 1980s. Since 1998, the basic research direction has been the basic and clinical application research in cognitive disorders. The neurology laboratory includes a nerve tissue sectioning room, a molecular biology laboratory, a tissue cell culture room, an electron microscope room, etc. It has advanced equipment and technology platforms such as an electron microscope/image processing system JEM-1230 and a Beckman multi-function detector. Under the leadership of Professor Jianping Jia, the laboratory has gradually established China's largest dementia biological specimen bank, which provides a guarantee for the pathogenesis research. National multi-center studies have been conducted to clarify the prevalence of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in China. It has established the first familial Alzheimer's disease (AD) registration network in China, using familial AD as a breakthrough in the study of AD mechanisms. Based on the newly discovered PSEN1 V97L mutation in Chinese familial AD patients, it has established a novel AD animal model of Chinese gene mutations, and opened up new ideas for the study of AD mechanisms. It has identified AD-related pathogenic/susceptibility genes and important protein functions in the Chinese population, providing evidence for the discovery of new genetic mechanisms of AD. Research on AD diagnostic markers is actively conducted, focusing on the development of early diagnostic techniques for AD.

Up to now, the laboratory has received more than 60 research projects at the national level such as the National Tenth Five-Year Plan, the Eleventh Five-Year Support, the Twelfth Five-Year Major Science and Technology Project, the 863, the 973, and the National Natural Science Foundation, among them, 3 are key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation. In recent years, more than 200 SCI articles have been published, with the highest impact factor of 17.428 and more than 700 statistical journal articles. Prof. Jianping Jia has won 7 provincial and ministerial awards such as Beijing Science and Technology Progress Second Prize. In 2013, as the first accomplisher, his project on “Epidemiology, Pathogenesis and Diagnosis and Treatment Application on Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment” won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. He has published more than 50 textbooks and monographs.
