Instituteof Cerebrovascular DiseasesResearch
The Instituteof Cerebrovascular DiseasesResearchwas established in 2009, with the director of Professor Yumin Luo. There are six faculty including three researchers and three techniciansat present. The institute focuses on exploring pathophysiologicalmechanisms of cerebrovascular diseases as well as neuroprotective interventions, aiming to promote the translation of basic research to clinical application and to provide service platform for basic and clinical research.
Since it established, the institute has been engaged in researching on the basic theory and advanced technology of stroke, as well as leading innovation and promoting development of this field. At present, various animal models of stroke have been set up and a public platform has been developed serving for animal model preparation. Basedon organismal, cellular and molecular levels, the institute has conducted comparativelysystematic studies on the pathogenic mechanisms of cerebral ischemia, and neuroprotective mechanisms of mild hypothermia, ischemic postconditioning and Traditional Chinese Medicine, laying a leading position in domestic field of stroke.
Up to now, there is 1 doctoral tutor and 1 master tutor.41graduate studentsgot their degree, including 11 doctorates, 26 postgraduates and 4 post doctors. The institute has undertaken a number of national and provincial research projects, including projects of National Science Foundation, 8 for usual, 3 for youth, 1 key projects of Beijing Natural Science Foundation, 1 general project and 1 Beijing Nova Program. In addition, the institute participated in one National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), and one National High Technology Research and Development Program of China(863 Program). Besides, 147 papershave published in domestic professional magazines, 86 papers in SCI journals and edited 3 books. Especially, 7 outstanding papers were published in the famous journal 《Stroke》in the past five years, one of which won the Progress and Innovation award in 2015.
The institute is always paying great attention to personnel training and academic exchanges. It has built cooperation with world class universities, such as Harvard University, University of Pittsburgh, University of New Mexico and Wayne state university. Frequently, students and visiting scholars are sent abroad for study and communication, and make academic presentation in international conferences. 3 young researchers won Young Investigator Award in 2013 Cerebral blood flow and metabolism conference.
