Pain Management

Department of Pain Management, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University was found in 2003. There are 24 medical staff and 20 beds in Ward, including 12 doctors and 12 nureses. 9 doctors have doctor’s degree and 2 doctors have master's degree. Among them, 5 doctors have senior professional title. There are 1 doctoral supervisor and 2 master's supervisors. Importantly, our department is the only doctor and postdoctoral training base in China. Until now, our department is the most famous pain medicine training and education center in China.

In clinical work, over 25,000 cases received out-patient diagnosis, about 15,000 cases received out-patient treatment, including trigger point, joint injection, nerve block, etc, and over 1300 cases received minimally-invasive interventional surgery, including trigeminal ganglion radiofreqency thermocoagulation, trigeminal ganglion coblation neuroplasty, cervical coblation discoplasty, lumbar coblation discoplasty, body temperature electromagnetic wave ablation discoplasty, etc.

In scientific research, 34 SCI papers and 50 chinese papers was published in last 5 years. Among them, the papers about trigeminal ganglion radiofreqency thermocoagulation and sphenopalatine ganglion radiofreqency thermocoagulation were the largest case observation study. The discogenic visceral pain and coblation annuloplasty was proposed firstly worldwide by our department. Besides, the first paper about coblation technoloyg in treating intractable neuralgia was reported worldwide by our department.

In teaching aspect, over 80 postgraduates were cultivated by Ni Jiaxiang. Over 70 doctors received half-year long-term training and over 100 doctors received 1 weeks-3 months short-term training each year. Right now, over 1000 doctors had received pain medicine training and education in our department. From 2007-2017, we have hold 11 national pain conferences, 12 national minimally invasive interventional classes, 11 outpatient pain nerve block and injection treatment classes, 7 ultrasound guided nerve block workshops, 1 national bone disease new minimally invasive treatment class.

Last, department of Pain Management of Xuanwu Hospital will always try best to improve clinical, scientific and teaching work and promote the development of pain diagnosis and treatment technology in China.
