Geriatrics
Department of Geriatrics ,which focuses on cadre health care and geriatric medical work,is one of the earliest clinical medical departments for the elderly in China. It consists of cadre health clinic and geriatric specialist clinic.The annual outpatient amount is more than 35,000. The department has 68 patient beds and up to 1,700 patients per year are admitted and discharged, mostly patientsover 70 years old. The department has 90 staff, of which all the physicians have master's degree or doctoral degree, including 5 chief physicians and 10 associate chief physicians.
The department has strong technical force and has accumulated a wealth of experience in clinical treatment of the elderly. It has a high level in the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, frequent illnesses, severe diseases, multiple organ dysfunction, and rational use of drugs in the elderly.Also it has strong advantages in diagnosing difficult diseases and severe diseases. The department is equipped with advanced facilities such as central monitoring equipment, telemetry ECG monitoring, cardiac color Doppler ultrasound, dynamic electrocardiogram, arteriosclerosis detector，ambulatory blood pressure monitor and continuous glucose monitor which can provide excellent diagnosis and quality services for elderly patients.
The department is a training base for residents inBeijing and provides educational program for Doctor of geriatric. In recent years, several books such as Chinese Geriatric Health Service Guide, Elderly Health Care Experts Guidance, and Rational Drug Use for the Elderly were published.The department undertakes research projects from the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the National Natural Science Foundation, the Ministry of Education,The Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the Beijing Municipal Natural Science Foundation. The main research directions are cardiovascular diseases, respiratory and infectious diseases, comprehensive geriatric assessment, frailty, endocrine and metabolic diseases, and multiple organ failure in older adults ,etc.
