Volunteer Doctors
In March 2017, Professor Ling Feng, the chief expert of neurosurgery at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, initiated the Volunteer Work Committee of Chinese Medical Doctors Association, aiming to build a team of medical volunteers. The professional volunteerism – “Charity Clinics, Poverty relief, disaster rescue, and foreign aid” will alleviate the shortage of medical resources currently existing in poverty areas, reduce the number of people who are in “poverty due to illness”, promote the accurate and healthy poverty alleviation program, and effectively solve the problem of patients in poverty areas.
On September 11, 2017, Wen Xiaoyan, a 47-year-old mechanic from Ethiopian Oriental Steel Co., Ltd., suffered a sudden rupture of the middle cerebral artery aneurysm. Four Chinese volunteer doctors from the Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, led by Director Ling Feng were there. On September 13, Professor Ling Feng, Professor Bao Yuhai and Professor Chen Ge formed the operation team to carry out the operation, successfully saved the Chinese worker's life. "As long as you are Chinese, we will save you no matter how far away."
From April 8 to 28, 2018, eight Chinese experts and four top international experts formed a team of Chinese volunteer doctors went to Guinea for assistance and training guidance. During the three-week period, 20 outpatient visits, 102 rounds of ward rounds, 27 cases of pathology discussions, 7 operations, 7 anesthesia procedures, 29 hours of theoretical and operational teaching, multiple workshops on related medical conditions with local women and children hospitals Public health policy were completed.
As of September 2018, China's volunteer doctors have gone through 38 poverty counties in Yunnan, Hainan, Hebei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Guizhou, and Shaanxi province. 212 Chinese volunteer doctors have received volunteer badges and official certification.
